External testing of pupils of 9th grade at primary schools is carried out each year in order to detect individual level of pupils´ knowledge of Mathematics and national language.
The results of the testing can be used by headmasters of secondary schools as one of the criteria for accepting pupils to study at secondary schools.
The preparation and implementation of testing lies in the competence of the Department of Evaluation Tools Development for Lower Secondary Education, which continues in the school year 2011/2012 in accordance with the Law No. 245/2008 on the education (School Act) and amending acts and the Regulation of Ministry of Education No 320/2008 on primary schools.
Testing of literacy
The testing of mathematical and reader´s literacy was carried out on a representative sample of schools (cca 100 primary schools and cca 4 000 pupils) on 28th April 2011. Pupils wrote tests focused on:
-mathematical literacy
-reader´s literacy
The aim of the testing of mathematical literacy was to detect pupils´ ability to solve verbally formulated mathematical tasks and problems based on the context of real life. Pupils were asked to analyze a short text, picture, table (chart) or graph.
The aim of the testing of reader´s literacy was to detect the pupils´ skills related to reading comprehension – searching and finding information in the text, interpretation of the text, thinking, reasoning and evaluation.
Testovanie 9-2011
In the school year 2010/2011 the nation-wide testing of the 9th grade pupils at primary schools was carried out on 9th March 2011. The nation-wide external testing consisted of two one-day testings:
-certification testing
-testing of literacy
Certification testing was carried out in the country as a whole and the pupils wrote a test from:
-Mathematics
-Slovak language and literature
-Hungarian language and literature
-Ukrainian language and literature
-state language
